Grown along India’s Malabar Coast, Monsoon Malabar is one of the country’s most distinctive coffees. Its unique character comes from the traditional monsooning process, where green coffee beans are exposed to the humid coastal monsoon winds for several months before export.

This process naturally reduces acidity while developing a fuller body and deeper sweetness, creating the smooth, mellow character that Monsoon Malabar is known for. With notes of chocolate, spice and toasted nuts, this is a rich and comforting coffee with a truly unique origin story.

Discovered by chance in the 16th century, spice ships transported beans across the seas to Europe, where the damp, humid conditions in the holds caused the beans to swell, neutralising acidity and producing a deep, heavy sweetness, which were an immediate hit with Europeans.

The monsooning process was discovered centuries ago when coffee transported by sea was exposed to humid conditions during long voyages, creating the distinctive smooth, low acidity character that became highly prized.
